Over the last decade with advances in technology and electronics the cost of surveillance has reduced drastically. Since the cost of data storage has also declined

significantly, it has cheaper for large organisations to store all the data they collect , instead of discarding it after some time, as was the practice earlier.

This surveillance has resulted in the loss of privacy. Though some people may argue that privacy is not needed, if there is nothing to hide, the information collected  about you can easily be misused.  Very few organisations have fool proof systems, especially those that do not consider the human factor.
